Bachelor in Conservation-Restauration
(1st cycle)
Presentation
The Bachelor’s degree in Conservation and Restoration offers a solid cultural, scientific and technological training, sustained by constant contact with real situations, both in the laboratory and in situ. The model for this cycle of studies is based on the development of a diverse set of skills that allow access to the labour market or the pursue of post-graduate studies, master’s and doctoral programs, in circumstances similar to those offered by front-line institutions of higher education on a European level.
The strong bond that ESTT keeps with local and foreign communities - through agreements with institutions of higher education, private and public institutions, religious entities (Misericórdias, Catholic Dioceses), museums and private owners -, allows a consistent and appropriate training, according to current requirements.
After graduation is possible to continue the studies in IPT, through the completion of the Master in Conservation and Restoration, which gives the necessary ECTS for exercising the profession, as recommended by national and international organizations that oversee Conservation and Restoration activities.
The labour market is extremely diverse, it covers cultural heritage safeguard, recovery, preservation, conservation and restoration of cultural assets, in sectors such as: central government and local authorities, museums, Misericórdias, foundations, monuments, palaces, churches, convents, archaeological sites, antique shops, auctioneers, art and cultural assets transport companies, cultural property management companies, project management offices for conservation and restoration and science and technology research laboratories.
Conservators trained by IPT are able to integrate the labour market in Portugal and abroad, working in numerous areas and specialties within the conservation and restoration range.
